Jour 1
Jour 1: Welcome to Sri Lanka — Pinnawala and Sigiriya village
Airport welcome, the elephant orphanage or the Millennium Elephant Foundation, and a rural village tour.

On arrival, our representative welcomes you. The route passes Pinnawala with a visit to the elephant orphanage or the Millennium Elephant Foundation.
Then continue to Sigiriya and tour the rural village. Overnight in Sigiriya.
Sri Lanka’s cultural heartland lies a few hours north of the airport. Plan for a long first day on the road, with generous breaks.
Stop 1 — Pinnawala elephants
A well-known elephant orphanage and a nearby elephant foundation care for elephants of all ages, and the river where they bathe is a highlight when open to visitors. The visit depends on the programme available.
Stop 2 — Village life
A gentle introduction to rural Sri Lanka: paddy fields, village houses and local food traditions, often with a bullock-cart or boat ride where offered.

Jour 2: Hurulu Eco Park and Sigiriya Rock
Hurulu Eco Park in the Minneriya area, then Sigiriya Rock.

A day that pairs wildlife with the island’s most famous monument.
Stop 1 — Hurulu Eco Park
A forest and reservoir reserve near Minneriya where wild elephants graze, best seen on a jeep safari in the cooler hours.
Stop 2 — Sigiriya Rock
A UNESCO World Heritage site: a massive rock topped by the ruins of a fifth-century royal palace. The climb is by steel stairways, passing the Mirror Wall and the Lion’s Paws, and rewards you with a view over the jungle plain. Start early to avoid the heat; the climb is moderate but includes many steps.

Jour 3: Dambulla, spice gardens and Kandy

Stop 1 — Dambulla cave temple
A rock-cut complex with painted ceilings and many Buddha statues; a short climb leads to the entrance.
Stop 2 — Herb and spice gardens
Learn about Ayurvedic herbs and spices and the uses of each plant.
Stop 3 — Kandy Lake, the Temple of the Tooth and the show
A lakeside walk, the sacred temple of the tooth relic (where visited) and an evening cultural show of Kandyan dance.

Jour 4: Peradeniya, Ramboda Falls and the tea country
Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Ramboda Falls, tea plantations and a factory, then Nuwara Eliya.

The day leads from Kandy’s botanical gardens up into the tea hills. Expect cooler air in the evening in Nuwara Eliya.
Stop 1 — Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
Royal botanical gardens with orchids, spice trees, giant bamboo and a famous avenue of palms, ideal for an easy morning walk.
Stop 2 — Ramboda Falls
A tall waterfall seen from the roadside viewpoint on the way up to the hills.
Stop 3 — Tea plantation and factory
See the tea pluckers on the slopes and the factory process, followed by a tasting.

Jour 5: Horton Plains and Baker’s Falls
The Horton Plains highlands and Baker’s Falls.

Visit the Horton Plains highlands and Baker’s Falls, taking weather conditions and entry hours into account. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
A dawn start gives the clearest views. Bring warm clothing and walking shoes.
Stop 1 — Horton Plains National Park
A high plateau of grassland and cloud forest, famous for the viewpoint called World’s End, where the land drops steeply away. The loop trail is easy to moderate and takes a few hours; start early, as mist usually covers the view by mid-morning. Entry fees apply.
Stop 2 — Baker’s Falls
A waterfall on the same trail, reached by a short side path through the forest.

Jour 6: The scenic train to Ella
The scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella, the Nine Arches Bridge and Diyaluma Falls.

The railway from the hill country to Ella is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, winding through tea estates, forest and villages, with open doors and windows for photographs. Seats and class depend on availability, and the schedule may change.

A stone viaduct in the jungle, a famous photograph when a train passes.
Stop 2 — Diyaluma Falls
One of the island’s tallest waterfalls, seen from a viewpoint on the road to the south.

Jour 7: Little Adam’s Peak, Ravana Falls and the beach

Jour 8: Galle Fort, turtles and the beach

Time to swim and relax on one of the south’s calm beaches.

Jour 9: Madu River and Colombo
Back to Colombo with a Madu River boat ride, a city tour and shopping.

The coast road north brings you back to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial capital, for the final evening.
Stop 1 — Madu River boat ride
A calm boat trip through mangrove islands, passing fishing villages and small temple islands; cinnamon-peeling demonstrations are a common stop.
Stop 2 — Colombo city tour
Typical sights include the Galle Face Green seafront, Independence Square, colonial-era buildings and the Pettah market.
Stop 3 — Shopping
Time for souvenirs such as Ceylon tea, spices, gems and handicrafts.
