Arrive at Tbilisi Airport, where your driver meets you and takes you to your hotel.
The rest of the day is yours. The old town, its balconied houses and its restaurants are close, and an evening walk is the easiest way to meet the city.

A full day in the old town, from Narikala to Rustaveli Avenue.
A full day on foot and by car through the capital. You start at the Narikala Fortress above the old town, then walk down past the sulphur baths of Abanotubani, Sioni Cathedral, the Metekhi church and the glass Peace Bridge over the Kura River.
The afternoon moves to Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square and the Dry Bridge flea market, then ends with an evening in the old town’s lanes, where Georgian restaurants and wine bars fill the courtyards.

Two ancient sites, then south to the spa town.
After breakfast you leave Tbilisi westwards. The first stop is Mtskheta, the ancient capital, where the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and the Jvari Monastery stand on the hills above two rivers; both are UNESCO sites.
The next stop is Uplistsikhe, a town carved into the rock near Gori, three thousand years old. The road then turns south into the green valley of Borjomi, where you reach your hotel in the afternoon.

A monastery of three thousand caves and a restored fortress.
A day south of Borjomi towards the Turkish border. In the morning you drive to Vardzia, a monastery of hundreds of rooms, churches and passages cut into a cliff face in the twelfth century.
On the way back you stop in Akhaltsikhe at Rabati Castle, a restored fortress with a mosque, a church, a synagogue and a palace inside one wall.

Stay: Borjomi
The mineral springs in the morning, then the road to the sea.
In the morning you walk in Borjomi Central Park to the mineral springs that gave the town its name; the water is warm and you can drink it from the spring, and the old Romanov summer palace stands on the edge of the town.
Then you set out by the mountain road to Batumi, reaching the Black Sea coast in the evening.
Note: This is a long driving day. Stops are shortened if the road or the weather needs it.

The seafront, the old town squares and the evening fountains.
A day in Georgia’s seaside city. You walk the Batumi Boulevard along the Black Sea shore, see the Alphabetic Tower, then explore the old town’s Piazza and Europe Square with their painted façades and cafés.
In the evening the singing and dancing fountains light up the boulevard, a good time for a seafood dinner by the water.
Note: The Batumi cable car and entrance fees are not included.

Waterfalls, a canyon trail and a green forest above the sea.
A nature day in the Adjara mountains behind Batumi. Mtirala is one of the rainiest places in the region, with a rain forest, rivers and small waterfalls on its trails.
A short walk follows a stream through the trees, and the drive up gives wide views back over the coast.

A stone bridge and a waterfall in the hills, and a Roman fortress by the sea.
You drive into the Adjara highlands to the Makhuntseti Waterfall, which drops below the medieval Queen Tamar stone bridge, one of the region’s best-known pictures.
Then you go south to Gonio, the Roman fortress of Apsaros beside the sea, with walls that still stand.

Plants from five continents on a cliff above the sea.
A relaxed day north of the city at the Green Cape. The Batumi Botanical Garden covers a hillside above the Black Sea, with plants from several continents, shaded paths and views of the coast.
The afternoon is for the beach, or for a drink on the seafront.
Note: The garden entrance fee is not included.

A canyon walkway, a waterfall and the road to the old capital of the west.
After breakfast you leave Batumi for the hills near Kutaisi. At Okatse a trail leads to a walkway built along the rim of a deep canyon, with the forest below.
Nearby, the Kinchkha Waterfall drops about 70 metres into a green gorge. You arrive in Kutaisi in the evening.

A green canyon and one of Georgia’s largest caves.
A day in the countryside around Kutaisi. In the morning you visit Martvili Canyon, where a river runs between smooth rock walls and clear green water, with a path along the cliffs.
In the afternoon you visit the Prometheus Cave, a chain of large halls full of stalactites, lit for visitors.
Note: The boat ride in the canyon, the cave ticket and other entrance fees are not included.
Stay: Kutaisi
Two great medieval churches, then east to the capital.
After breakfast you visit Kutaisi’s two great monuments: Bagrati Cathedral on its hill above the river, and Gelati Monastery, a UNESCO site with golden mosaics from the twelfth century.
Then you leave for Tbilisi, about three and a half hours east across the country, where you reach your hotel in the evening.

Ananuri, mountain passes and the church under Mount Kazbek.
A day north into the Greater Caucasus along the Georgian Military Road. The first stop is Ananuri, a fortress and churches on a turquoise reservoir. The road then climbs to the viewpoint over the Devil’s Valley near Gudauri, and on through the pass to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), about three hours from Tbilisi.
Here the Gergeti Trinity Church stands on a ridge beneath Mount Kazbek, one of Georgia’s most famous views. You return to Tbilisi in the evening.

Note: The 4x4 ride up to the church and entrance fees are not included. The pass can close in snow or fog, and the day is then changed.

Vineyards, a hilltop town of love and a monastery with a spring.
A day east of Tbilisi in Kakheti, the valley where Georgian winemaking began some eight thousand years ago. You visit Bodbe Monastery with its gardens, then Sighnaghi, a walled hilltop town with a wide view of the Alazani Valley, and the Tsinandali estate and its park.
A winery visit shows how wine is made in clay vessels buried in the ground, a method listed by UNESCO. The tasting is a paid extra.
