Your driver meets you at Kraków airport and takes you south, into the foothills of the Tatra Mountains, to Zakopane, the mountain capital of Poland. The road winds through villages of dark timber houses with steep roofs.
You reach your hotel, receive your room and have the rest of the day to rest, or to stroll into the centre for a first dinner.
Unterkunft: Zakopane
The mountain town on foot, then a short ride up to a ridge facing the Tatras.
A day to meet Zakopane. In the morning you walk the town: its wooden villas and chapels, and Krupówki, the pedestrian main street of about 800 metres, with its craft shops, regional cheese stalls and cafés.
In the afternoon you ride the funicular, a ride of about four minutes, up Gubałówka, a ridge at about 1,120 metres. From the top the whole chain of the Tatras stands in front of you with Zakopane below. There are restaurants serving regional dishes, market stalls and short walks along the ridge.

A day in the high mountains, with the cable car to the 1,985 m summit as an option.
A day in the Tatras, the highest mountains of the Carpathians. Your driver takes you to Kuźnice, at the foot of the mountains, where the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch starts. The ride is in two stages, by way of Myślenickie Turnie, and takes about twenty minutes to the summit at 1,985 metres, on the border ridge between Poland and Slovakia.
Up there you have time for the view and for short walks. If the wind is too strong the cable car closes, and your guide then plans another route in the valleys below, with forest paths and mountain meadows.
Hinweis: The cable car is a paid extra and depends on the wind and the weather. Tickets sell out on clear summer days, so they are booked ahead for you.
Unterkunft: Zakopane
Across the border to a mountain village, and a forest walk if you wish.
A private trip across the border to Slovakia, to Ždiar, a mountain village on the southern side of the Tatras. The road gives you the other face of the mountains, and you have time in the village for photographs and a relaxed lunch.
Near Ždiar, the Bachledka resort has a treetop walkway of over 600 metres, ending in an observation tower, for those who want it. On the way back you return to Zakopane for the evening.
Hinweis: Please bring your passport. The treetop walk ticket is a paid extra.

A village of log houses on the road, then the evening in the royal city.
After breakfast you leave Zakopane and drive north. The first stop is Chochołów, a village whose single street is lined with traditional log houses, where you can taste oscypek, the smoked mountain cheese, grilled over the fire.
The road continues to Kraków, where you check in to your hotel. In the evening you can walk to the Main Market Square, which is lit and lively after dark.
Hinweis: This is a travel day with a stop on the way. Food and drink are not included.

The royal city on foot, from the square to the castle hill.
A full private tour of Kraków. You start in the Old Town and the Main Market Square, one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, laid out in 1257, with the Cloth Hall and St Mary’s Basilica, whose tower sounds the bugle call every hour.
Then you walk along the Royal Route to Wawel Hill, the seat of Polish kings, with its cathedral and its castle, and see the old walls above the river. The afternoon is free for shopping and dinner, and for Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter, now full of cafés and galleries.
